The Ally Workshop
YVC STAR students are proud to present this workshop supported by Utilities Employees Credit Union.
Listen. Discuss. Learn. Support. Act.
What does it mean to be an ally to a marginilized group such as racial minority? How can we be better allies to people of color?
This workshop, developed and led by students from YVC of Reading’s Stand Together Against Racism initiative, is for anyone who wants to create a more inclusive community and world. Listen to stories from different perspectives, learn more about racism from youth advocates, engage in youth-led discussions on what allyship means and how to move it from a noun to a verb. This workshop is open to any adult, middle school, or high school student who wants to listen, discuss, learn, support and act to create a more just world. From 10 AM to 12 PM in celebration of MLK Jr. Day on January 15, 2024. Includes light lunch.
"Open, honest discussion is what the Ally Workshop is all about; creating a comfortable, welcoming space to start those uncomfortable but necessary conversations, the first step toward uniting our community to Stand Together Against Racism. Everyone should attendl.” - workshop participant
"I was so impressed with the breadth of knowledge that this group of young people have not only about the extent of racial and social injustices in our society, but about the tools and resources that are necessary for all people to come together and combat racism while actively being allies to marginalized people. I learned a lot about how to be an ally through more than just lip-service." - workshop participant
There is no fee associated with this workshop; it is being supported by a partnership with UECU.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 13+, Minimum Age:13+
