S.T.A.R. Film Discussion Series (Racial Equity/Social Justice)

Join student leaders from the YVC Stand Together Against Racism youth initiative to discuss thought-provoking films about race. Watch the movie (or read the book) prior to the virtual discussion. Students and adults are welcome to join us! Discussions are held via zoom.

February 22, 2023. We will be discussing SELMA-  A chronicle of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s campaign to secure equal voting rights via an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1965. 

March 29, 2023. We will be discussing Judas and the Black Messiah - a film about the betrayal of Fred Hampton, chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party in late-1960s Chicago, by an FBI informant, William O'Neal. 

NEW DATE - May 31, 2023. We will be discussing Glory Road - a sports drama based on a true story surrounding the first NCAA all-Black starting lineup and events leading to the 1966 NCAA University Division Basketball Championship. The film explores racism, discrimination and student athletics.
