S.T.A.R. Film Discussion Series (Racial Equity/Social Justice)
Join student leaders from the YVC Stand Together Against Racism youth initiative to discuss thought-provoking films. Watch the movie prior to the virtual discussion. Students and adults are welcome to join us! Discussions are held via zoom except when noted.
Wednesday, April 29, 2026 - The Proud Family a lighter peice that touches on racial experience through the point of view of middle school students.
*We ask that you come prepared to share your favorite epsiode in the series you can choose from the original 2001 episodes or the 2022 verison The Proud family : Louder and Prouder
(There is not a specific episode to watch , find your favorite)
here are some sample talking points:
- How do the issues in the show relate to real-world racial injustice today?
- Why is it important to have shows like The Proud Family that center Black families and experiences?
- How does humor help (or hurt) the way serious topics like racism are discussed?
- How does Penny Proud navigate being a young Black girl in different environments (school, community, friendships)?
- How do cultural identity and pride show up in the show?
